Risk Identification and Resolution
Utilising our specialist knowledge and expertise, DBD have developed a number of review methodologies associated with risk identification and resolution. These include:
Risk Focused Design Review (RFDR)
Risk Focused Commissioning (RFC)
Supported by the above processes, DBD delivers reviews in the design stage of projects which identify key risks and plan for the resolution of these risks early in the project. This removes latent risks from the construction and commissioning stages of the project where rework is an order of magnitude greater in cost.
RFDR is performed in parallel to the Client’s normal design process and establishes the readiness of the design at key release points to allow the project to progress. It ensures that not only is the design ready to progress to the next stage but that the interfaces with other aspects of the project have been considered, including:
Design and Safety Case intent flows through the design process and is not ‘lost’ due to gaps in change control management
The level of technical uncertainty and risk being carried by the project is accurately estimated, identified and managed
• Adequate provision is made for technical risks and these are managed effectively
• Design choices and key decisions are made on a sound basis and properly documented
• Design activities are effectively integrated across all disciplines and subprojects
• Alignment and integration with Safety Case requirements
• Ensures the project can be constructed, commissioned and operated as required by the design intent
RFC delivers best practice commissioning through:
• Using a bespoke assessment approach to determine what to test, to what extent, when and the best method for executing the test
• Ensuring risk is brought forward and dealt with at the most efficient time in the schedule
• Ensuring that the safety thread is visible from the Safety Case and Engineering Schedule through to the Safety Commissioning Schedule, its associated testing strategy and test documentation
• Applicable to System/Sub-system/equipment & Components (SSCs) in both inactive and active commissioning
• Categorising SSCs into the DBD Commissioning Matrix
